The starting salary for this role is $181,800.
About the role:
The Vice President of Marketing and Communications serves as a strategic enterprise leader responsible for advancing PenAir's brand, marketing, and communications functions. The VP will advance brand strategy, enhance digital engagement, and deepen insight driven decision making across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Experience Officer, the VP of Marketing and Communications integrates brand, communications, digital, and Voice of the Member insights to shape strategy, drive member engagement, and support PenAir's long term success. This leader ensures PenAir presents a consistent, compelling, and trusted brand across all channels while enabling modern marketing practices that support growth in priority markets and across the member lifecycle.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Brand Management and Strategy
- Leads the development and activation of PenAir's brand strategy to ensure a consistent, compelling, and member-centered brand across all channels and experiences.
- Partners with leaders across the credit union to embed the brand into member experience, product offerings, digital channels, and physical environments including branches, loan production offices, and ITMs.
- Uses Voice of the Member insights and market intelligence to guide brand positioning, elevate messaging, and ensure relevance across key markets and segments.
- Strengthens brand health through clear governance, ongoing evaluation, and alignment with PenAir's culture, values, and long-term growth priorities.
Marketing & Advertising
- Leads integrated marketing and advertising strategy across paid, owned, and earned channels to strengthen brand visibility, support demand generation, and enhance member engagement.
- Holds full accountability for website strategy and performance, ensuring digital experiences function as primary drivers of awareness, consideration, and conversion, while collaborating closely with Digital stakeholders to maintain cohesive and aligned experiences across channels.
- Directs social media, content marketing, and public relations efforts to reinforce brand positioning and support organizational initiatives.
- Leads the design and optimization of full funnel marketing approaches across the member lifecycle, aligning campaigns with business goals, market opportunities, and member needs.
- Applies Voice of the Member insights, data analytics, and market intelligence to sharpen targeting, enhance messaging, and improve campaign effectiveness.
Corporate Communications, Public Relations and Community Outreach
- Leads internal and external corporate communications, ensuring clear, consistent, and effective messaging across executive communications, organizational announcements, and change initiatives.
- Oversees public relations strategy to strengthen PenAir's reputation and enhance the credit union's presence across media and the broader community.
- Directs community engagement programs and strategic partnerships that reflect PenAir's mission, values, and brand positioning, ensuring outreach efforts contribute to brand trust and member centered impact.
- Ensures communications, messaging, and public relations efforts incorporate Voice of the Member insights and reflect PenAir's culture, strategic priorities, and reputation management objectives.
Marketing Operations & Technology
- Provides strategic oversight of marketing operations, including performance measurement, workflow optimization, and the effective use of the marketing technology stack, supported by the Marketing Operations Coordinator.
- Holds full accountability for website strategy and digital engagement, partnering closely with Digital stakeholders to ensure cohesive, modern, and member centered online experiences.
- Ensures marketing tools, platforms, and data capabilities support insight driven marketing practices, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Guides the development, production, and quality of marketing assets and collateral, ensuring professional standards, accuracy, and brand alignment while empowering creative and operational team members to execute effectively.
- Monitors external trends, emerging technologies, and member behavior insights to inform ongoing enhancements to marketing processes, digital experiences, and operational capabilities.
- Collaborates with internal partners, external agencies, and vendors to support smooth execution and high quality delivery across marketing functions.
Voice of the Member & Insight Activation
- Provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Voice of the Member function, ensuring its insights, including feedback, sentiment, and behavioral patterns, inform marketing strategy and support enterprise-wide decision making.
- Directs the synthesis of member insights into clear themes and actionable recommendations that shape marketing priorities, experience improvements, and cross functional initiatives.
- Partners with leaders across the credit union to share insights that strengthen member centered strategies, remove friction points, and align organizational efforts with member needs.
Leadership and People Development
- Leads, develops, and coaches a diverse, multi-disciplinary team, including marketing operations, corporate communications, product marketing, community relations, community education, social media, creative, and Voice of the Member roles, to build capabilities, strengthen performance, and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Clearly defines expectations, goals, and accountability across team members and functions to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and strategic marketing outcomes.
- Builds future focused team capacity by developing talent, supporting professional growth, and empowering team members to operate at a high standard of quality, creativity, and operational excellence.
- Models PenAir's values through leadership behaviors, clear communication, and strong partnership with leaders across the credit union to ensure marketing is a trusted, strategic contributor to organizational success.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience
- A minimum of 15 years of experience, including similar or preparatory positions, with a minimum of five years in a senior leadership role.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- A bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field is required. (2) A master's degree in a related field is highly preferred. Additionally, relevant industry certifications or courses that showcase expertise in marketing, branding, and strategic planning are a plus.
Interpersonal Skills
- Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of professional diplomacy, trust and relationship. Obtaining cooperation and agreement (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and a expert level of interpersonal and written communication skills are critical to the success of this position.

- Proficiency in leveraging digital platforms and tools to drive marketing results, including applying data and insights to guide strategy.
- Strong capability in interpreting member insights to improve experience and drive growth.
- Ability to stay current with marketing, communications, and technology trends and apply them effectively.
- Exceptional project management skills.
- Proficiency in budgeting, financial forecasting, and ROI analysis.
- Deep understanding of member segmentation, targeted marketing, and membercentric strategies.
- Expertise in brand storytelling, content development, PR, and corporate communications.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing marketing strategies, digital campaigns, and leading diverse, highperforming teams.
- Proficient understanding of financial regulations and compliance standards pertinent to the credit union industry (e.g., BSA, AML, Fair Lending).
